Product description
From 1300 onward, the shape and strength of the sword changed rapidly. As armor became more common, shields grew unnecessary. Swords gained longer grips and blades, allowing fighters to wield them with two hands. These large swords — longswords — could be used one- or two-handed. They were the predecessors of the even larger two-handed swords that came later. Only infantry carried them. Blade shapes started out wide and flat, then grew slimmer and more pointed, with thinner tips designed to pierce armor.
