The characteristic flap closure at the front of these trousers is known as a fall front. This type of closure was very common on men's trousers and knee breeches in the 18th century. Especially in the second half of the 18th century, this construction was popular and was worn by men from different social classes, from sailors and soldiers to civilians. Around the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, the fall front was also applied to longer trousers. Over the course of the 19th century, this closure gradually gave way to the modern fly.
Pollard is the long version of our Franklin trousers. The trouser legs have a straight cut and end above the ankles. Like Franklin, these trousers feature a front flap, belt loops, and a belt around the waistband that you can adjust.
