The federschwert is the iconic practice sword from the German Renaissance and the precursor of modern HEMA training swords. This feder sword was used from the 16th century in Fechtschulen and is known for its thin, flexible blade, large ricasso, and heavy pommel, giving it the same weight and balance point as a real longsword.
