Fibula Wilzhofen, Hallstatt period 6th century BC, bronze

Product description

This one fibula dates from the transition between the Hallstatt C and D periods and was found in Wilzhofen. The pointed work may be a further development of cupstone motifs; the function of the parts on the underside is unclear, but they may, like similar parts on the staffs of Old Norse völvas, have had a ritual role. This may have been the grave of an aristocrat — in Celtic culture, politics and religion were closely intertwined.
