Dungeons and Dragons race
In DnD, the population of the world consists of different peoples and fantasy races that you can all play. Don't just think of humans, dwarves, and elves! If there's a non-human character in a series, film, game, or book that you think is awesome, there's always a dungeons and dragons race to be found that matches your idea. It can also work the other way around – maybe you'll discover a race somewhere that seems so interesting to play that you base your entire character on it!
Each different DnD race has a different experience of the world, where you can find lots of inspiration during roleplaying. Keep in mind that the simple fact that humans live relatively short lives, while dwarves and elves live for hundreds (or even thousands) of years, can have a huge impact on your character's worldview and personality!
Your character's race also determines the skills and bonuses you receive. Dwarves, for example, are small, can see without light, and are handy with a tool set of your choice. Also, many races have subraces you can choose from, which give you small extra bonuses. Hill dwarves are tougher and get extra hit points, while Mountain dwarves are stronger and can wear armor regardless of their class.
Note: Your character's race is the part of your character that can depend most on the world you're playing in. Maybe you have a cool idea for a viking dwarf or a celtic elf, but those races might actually have very different cultures in your Dungeon Master's world. Maybe elves and dwarves hate each other, or they're close friends. Maybe their world doesn't even have dwarves or elves! That's why it can be really handy to discuss this with your Dungeon Master.

In expansions for the rules like Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, or guides for alternative campaign settings like Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft and Mythic Odysseys of Theros you'll also find other races if you're looking for something more exotic. In these books you'll find, for example, powerful centaurs that trample their enemies, extraterrestrial beings with telekinetic powers, or little crow-folk that can't speak themselves but can only mimic sounds!
