Peter Tobin – Irish Historical Reenactor and Gallowglass Warrior

Within our community, we love to see how reenactors from all across Europe bring history to life in their own unique way. This time, we'd like to introduce Peter Tobin, an Irish historical reenactor with a huge passion for Gaelic Ireland and the legendary gallowglass warriors from the late medieval period.

Peter focuses on the history of Ireland between the 14th and 16th centuries and conducts extensive research into his clothing, weapons and equipment to create an authentic portrayal as possible. Below, Peter shares his own story and passion for Irish reenactment in his own words.

"As an Irish historical reenactor, I'm passionate about learning, promoting and bringing to life Irish history, with a special focus on Gaelic Ireland from the 14th to the 16th century.

This period fascinates me because it showcases the strength of the original Irish culture, warfare and traditions before the full impact of English conquest. Here I portray an Irish gallowglass warrior, carefully researching and wearing period-correct clothing and equipment to ensure authenticity down to every detail.

From my léine and woolen brat to my weapons and armor, I try to recreate the life and appearance of these elite mercenaries as faithfully as possible. Reenactment not only allows me to deepen my own understanding of the Irish past, but also to share that history in a compelling and meaningful way with others, thus helping to preserve and celebrate the Gaelic-Irish heritage.

I'm now proudly an experienced member of "Celtic Web Merchant" and have incorporated much of their equipment, purchased through the shop, into my kit because I find their products to be of high quality and historically accurate."
