Product description
The waistcoat developed in the second half of the 17th century into an important part of European men's clothing. It was worn over the shirt and under the long justaucorps and together with the trousers formed the well-known three-piece men's suit. Early waistcoats were long and fastened high, but during the 18th century they gradually became shorter and the neckline was cut further open.
This vest fits in with the development of the waistcoat in the late 18th century. The short, sleeveless cut and open neckline match models that became popular from around 1770 onwards and revealed more of the shirt and cravat. This makes it suitable for historically inspired outfits from the late 18th century.
The vest is made from 100% cotton, both the exterior and the lining, and is finished with applied pockets and an adjustable band at the back for a good fit.
This vest is suitable for re-enactment, living history and LARP and forms a versatile addition to a pirate or adventurer outfit. Wash at 40°C on a delicate wash programme, not suitable for the dryer.
