This lined woollen overcoat is based on the caftan, a garment that originally came from Persia and Central Asia. Through trade contacts with the steppe peoples and the Eastern world — including along the route via Kiev — the Vikings adopted this style. Characteristic is the overlapping front with triangular flaps, which gives the coat its distinctive cut. Traditionally the garment was closed at hip height with a belt or with fibulas.

The overcoat is made of 100% wool and lined with a smooth polyester inner fabric, so you can easily put it on and take it off without the clothing underneath shifting. The wool insulates naturally and keeps you warm on cooler days. The coat reaches just above the knee and has red-brown piping along the cuffs and neckline as a graceful accent.

Comparable overlapping coats have been found at sites such as Valsgärde and Hedeby, firmly anchoring this style in the Viking Age.
