Product description

This undertunic is based on historical clothing fragments excavated from the shores of Sonderso. It is dated between the years 1000 and 1300, making it one of the oldest Viking tunics ever found. This reconstruction is closely based on the original, with a square overlapping the front, a rectangular bottom, and no gores.

Undertunics were worn to keep outer garments clean for longer. Undergarments were often washed, while outer garments were washed less frequently to preserve their natural color. Vikings were known for being very clean. They bathed daily, and on Saturdays, everyone would go to the bath. Saturday was also the day when clothes were washed. In Icelandic, Saturday (laugardagur) literally means wash day.
