Product description

This belt fitting is based on archeological finds in the Ukrainian city Chernikov that originate from the 10th century AD. It can be used for decorating belts, coats and bags. It measures 3,5 cm and is silver coloured.

The fitting was originally used to decorate a caftan. The motive is typical Rusvik and borrowed from the Magyars. The Magyars were a nomadic people that invaded Europe during the 9th century AD and settled in Hungary. The eastern Vikings traded with them and presumably used their art motives in their own objects. Caftan closings were used by the Magyars, who also influenced Rusvik fashion. The Rusvik Vikings also wore it as a caftan closing.
