Product description

This belt fitting is based on a 9th century historical original excavated in Hordaland, Norway. It is made in the Borre style (825-970). It is not only suitable decorating belt straps, you can also use it to decorate bags. The fitting measures 2,4 cm and it is bronze coloured.

The fitting shows a Borre style backward-looking animal in profile, which was much less common than the gripping-beasts en face. The body of the animal is arranged to fill all the available space (horro vacui). This animal motive was not only used in metalwork, it was used in all kinds of media like wood-carvings, stone sculptures and fabric.
