Product description
This Roman cavalry helmet is based on a find from Xanten, the ancient Colonia Ulpia Traiana on the Lower Rhine and an important Roman military site along the Rhine frontier. The historical original dates from the 1st century AD. As a riders' helmet, this type stands out for its rich decoration, which clearly sets it apart from the plainer helmets of the Roman infantry.
The helmet is handmade from 1.2 mm thick steel. One of the most striking details is the finely worked texture of the arming cap, which imitates human hair and continues onto the cheek plates with stylised, gold-coloured curls. A gold-coloured decorative band encircles the helmet and ends at the front in a richly ornamented medallion with a Roman legionary. Inside, an adjustable leather lining ensures a comfortable fit, and with the leather straps you fasten the helmet securely.
This fully wearable helmet is therefore ideally suited to Roman re-enactment, LARP, theatre and film, and makes a fine addition to the equipment of a Roman legionary. It also shows to great advantage in the collection of any helmet enthusiast. The steel used is not stainless; treat the helmet regularly with weapon oil to prevent rust.
