This pendant features a detailed depiction of a half-human, half-animal creature playing the bagpipes, designed as a medieval minstrel. The original badge dates back to the period 1350–1450 AD and was discovered in the Dutch city of 's-Hertogenbosch. It is currently part of the Van Beuningen collection, as referenced by Koldeweij. The replica measures 3.2 x 2.6 cm.The pendant can easily be sewn onto clothing through its openings, allowing it to function as a traditional badge, just as it would have been worn in the Middle Ages. It is available in high-quality silver-plated bronze.
In medieval art, bagpipers are sometimes depicted as animals, with most examples coming from England and the Netherlands during the fifteenth century. The bagpipe, with its phallic form, was often associated with sexual sin in medieval times, giving it a somewhat disreputable reputation.
