Product description
The gladius is the weapon with which Roman legionaries conquered a large portion of the world. They were in use from approximately the third century B.C. to the third century A.D. There are various types of gladii, which are named after their place of origin. This specimen is based on a late Roman original found in Xanten from approximately the third century A.D. This find is difficult to classify as a specific type of gladius. Around the end of the third century, the longer spatha was increasingly used.
This luxury gladius is an acquisition for collectors of classical weapons and for Roman re-enactors. It features a blade made of 9260 steel and a hilt of bone and wood with a screwed pommel. It comes with a leather scabbard with a wood core. The scabbard is beautifully decorated with brass fittings. The two square fittings display iconography related to warfare. The lower panel shows a fully armed figure on a chariot and the second panel shows a figure surrounded by laurel wreaths, the symbol for victors. The bottom is decorative, with a palmette and a decorated scabbard tip. The scabbard has brass rings so you can hang it from your belt.
