Product description
The Roman gladius was the iconic legionnaire's shortsword, used from the 3rd century BC. until the 2nd century AD. The double-sided sharpened blade was designed for powerful stabs in closed combat formation, but the wide cutting edges also made it suitable for slashing. This Mainz type is characterized by a wider blade with a "waist" (concave shape) and a long, triangular point, and weighed approximately 800 grams in the original.
This gladius is made of carbon steel with an antique finish, an ergonomically shaped wooden handle and a rounded pommel. Semi-sharp ground and supplied with sheath.
