Product description
This spangenhelm is an interpretation of the early medieval nasal helmets from the Vendel and Viking periods. It is not an exact copy of one specific find, but a helmet type that was widely distributed in Scandinavia at that time. The famous Gjermundbu helmet, dated around the 10th century, provides a good picture of how these types of Norse helmets were constructed back then.
The arming cap and the individual reinforcing bands - the eyebrow band, the bands running from back to front and ear to ear, and the face guard - are firmly attached to each other with steel rivets. The whole is made of 1.6 mm steel with an antique finish, which gives the helmet a weathered, lived-in character. Inside there is an adjustable leather insert, and a leather chin strap with brass buckle keeps the helmet in place.
This fully wearable helmet is suitable for re-enactment, living history and costume, and forms a nice addition to any collection of Viking Age helmets.
