This type of early great helm appeared from the first half of the 13th century. It was developed from the nasal helm (calotte) and offered better protection for the entire head. These helmets were usually worn in combination with a chainmail coif. Helmets like this were worn by the European aristocracy and knightly class and are depicted in various manuscripts and seals. They remained in use until the end of the 13th century.

This helmet is based on an image of the Templars. The poor knights of Christ were established to protect pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. The Templars developed into one of the finest fighting forces of the Middle Ages. Their motto was: Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam (“Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to Your name be the glory”).

The maximum internal circumference is 68 cm, excluding the helmet liner. This helmet comes with a liner and chin strap. If you want to wear additional padding, measure your head circumference while wearing it. The padded liner already attached inside the helmet is usually sufficient. To create more space inside the helmet, the liner can be removed.
