The Landsknecht hat is a striking, layered hat headgear inspired by the famous German mercenaries of the 16th century. This cut wool hat is made up of layers of felt with decorative cuts red-white, and is therefore an eye-catcher with any Landsknecht outfit or late Renaissance costume.
The hat is made of soft wool with a lining cotton, which makes it both comfortable and authentic. Adjustable chin straps ensure that the hat stays in place, even in a strong wind or a fierce gust. Traditionally, a simple cap was often worn under the teller beret; women also wore this type headgear, as seen in paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder.
This hat is the perfect finishing touch to a Landsknecht costume, but is also a strong accent to other late Renaissance clothing. Suitable for re-enactment, living history and LARP, and can be combined with matching feathers for an even more extravagant effect.
