A brigandine is a form of body armour from the late medieval to early modern period, roughly the 13th to 16th century. Originally, such a garment consisted of sturdy textile or leather onto which small, oval plates were riveted, usually visible on the outside. Over time, the construction shifted from many small plates to fewer but larger plates, until the silhouette came closer to an early breastplate.

Such armour was typically worn over a gambeson and chainmail shirt by archers and knights. Compared to a full plate harness, it offered more freedom of movement and was simpler to repair yourself — making it more accessible than a breastplate. In 15th-century France, an archer was required to bring at least a brigandine into battle, while a man-at-arms needed at least a breastplate.

This brigandine is made of hemmed, braided suede and leather straps, riveted at each intersection — flexible enough not to restrict your freedom of movement. Wear it loose over a gambeson or combine it with a chainmail shirt or collar; with the three belts on the side you can easily adjust the fit. Leather is a natural product, so the colour may vary slightly from the example shown.
