Product description
The justaucorps emerged in the second half of the 17th century and evolved from the casaque, a spacious travel cloak, into a more fitted jacket — hence the name, which means 'tight to the body'. Early models from around 1670–1700 reached approximately to the knee and featured a relatively straight cut, wide cuffs, and a long row of buttons from neck to hem. Under the justaucorps, men wore a shirt, long waistcoat, and knee breeches. During the 18th century, the justaucorps became a permanent part of the men's wardrobe and the model continued to develop. Ultimately, this jacket became an important precursor to the frock coat and the modern three-piece suit.
