Product description

This woolen pinafore dress is a typical part of the costume of Viking women. From the 8th century onward this surcoat was worn, probably as a further development of the earlier peplos-like dresses. Characteristic are the shoulder straps and the simple, tube-shaped cut; the garment falls to the calf and is closed at the sides with lacing cords.

The pinafore dress is made of 100% wool, which naturally insulates and keeps you warm on cooler days. Along the neckline and the hem runs an applied braided trim in mustard yellow and reddish brown, which gives the sober design decorative accents.

On the shoulders the surcoat was fastened with tortoise brooches, which not only held the garment together but also served to hang chains, bead strings and everyday objects from. Wear the pinafore dress over an undergarment and combine it with brooches, a belt and matching accessories for an authentic look at markets, Viking gatherings and re-enactment events.
