The burgonet, also called the Burgundian sallet, was the successor to the sallet and was widely worn during the Renaissance and early modern period, particularly by cavalry. Characteristic features include the flap above the field of vision, the crest that runs front to back across the skull, and the hinged cheek pieces. A flange at the lower edge protects the neck and the sides of the throat.
From around 1540, the burgonet was sometimes combined with a falling buffe: a visor that closes upward rather than downward. This created the closed burgonet. This helmet has such a reinforced face piece, which is held in place by a riveted metal bracket and restricts your vision as little as possible.
The helmet is made of steel in a black finish, with leather belts and steel buckles. With the leather helmet inlay and the loose foam band, you adjust the fit, and a leather chin strap holds the helmet in place. This burgonet is intended for LARP, cosplay and costume, not for heavy combat contact.
