This pendant depicts the Ugunskrusts, literally 'fire cross' in Latvian, also called pērkonkrusts or 'thunder cross' — a reference to Perkūnas/Perun, the god of thunder. The Ugunskrusts is a Baltic variant of the hooked cross, which occurs in countless versions and is still considered an age-old symbol of good luck in the Baltic region.

In Latvia and Lithuania it has traditionally been used to decorate utensils and clothing.
