Product description

The waistcoat originated in the second half of the 17th century as part of the new three-piece men's suit. It was worn over the shirt and under the justaucorps. The first waistcoats were long, sometimes fitted with sleeves and closed almost up to the neck. Over the course of the 18th century, the sleeves disappeared, the garment became shorter, and the front was increasingly cut open.

This waistcoat fits in with late 18th-century fashion through its short cut and open neck. Around the end of the century, waistcoats increasingly ended at the waist, allowing a larger portion of the shirt and neckerchief to remain visible. This makes this model particularly suitable for outfits from circa 1770–1800.
