This doublet is inspired by the form-fitting jackets worn as a middle layer until the end of the 15th century, under a tabard, cloak or houppelande. From the 16th century onwards, the doublet also came into use among women and was often covered by a gambeson.

The vest is made of dyed cotton and lined on the inside with smooth satin for extra wearing comfort. Coloured binding along the edges emphasizes the tight, neat fit. Close the jerkin with the five laces on the front completely for a tight, neat fit, or leave the top laces undone for a more informal look.
