The 12th Century Coif is a simple, close-fitting hood that covers your hair and ears – an essential staple for almost any medieval outfit. In the 12th century almost everyone wore this headgear, loose or as a first layer under a helmet or chainmail hood. Are you wearing a helmet or chainmail shirt, then this coif prevents your hair from getting trapped in it metal and your head protection will immediately be a lot more comfortable.

We use breathable for this coif cotton, so that your head stays cool during active moments. The hood closes with two simple straps under the chin, so it stays in place as you move. The seams are sewn flat, so you won't get pressure points when you wear other head protection over it.

Although stylistically the coif belongs to the High Middle Ages, this model remained in use throughout the late Middle Ages and therefore fits a wide range of outfits – from simple peasant to knight. Thanks to the light cotton the coif is also easy to wash after a weekend in the field, so it remains practical for re-enactment, LARP and cosplay.
