Storing Your LARP Swords: A Beginner's Guide

Protect your LARP sword with a holder

Not all holders are suitable for LARP swords. Due to their construction and materials, LARP swords and daggers are considerably thicker than a steel blade. This is something you need to keep in mind when purchasing a sword holder.

Some LARP swords can be so thick, wide or have such an unusual shape that they're difficult to fit into the scabbard, even in a holder made for LARP weapons. Forcefully pushing and pulling such a sword through a holder can damage the sword and make it unsuitable for use at a LARP event.

If you want to fit a sword with a wide blade into a holder, buy a sword holder whose width can be adjusted with buckles or laces. Make sure the holder is wide enough so that the widest part of the blade can pass through without getting stuck.

This can result in the holder being too wide at the handle side for the blade. To prevent the blade from moving too much or sliding through the holder, you can attach a leather hook to the sword. Also, if you have a sword without a crossguard or hand guard, a leather hook may be necessary.
