This belt end is based on an original find from Anglo-Saxon England. It is decorated with a filigree knot motif and measures 4.4 x 2.0 cm. It is suitable for belt strip with a width of 2.0 cm. Anglo-Saxon art was influenced by Viking art. The Vikings settled in the north of Anglo-Saxon England from the late ninth to early tenth century. They married Anglo-Saxons and created their own mixed culture. A mix of the two arts is called Anglo-Scandinavian.

The Viking god Odin and Germanic god Wodan was the god of the aristocracy and warrior class. Odin/Wodan is associated with omniscience, he is the master of Runes and poetry and commands seidr (magic). The god is known as the god of war and death but his deeper meaning lies in the protection of cosmic order. According to mythology, Odin/Wodan is the first of kings and master over the Einingjarl, the heroic fallen warriors of Walhalla with whom he rides out to defeat Ragnarok (total chaos). Objects depicting Odin/Wodan can be linked to the aristocracy and warrior class, the Viking Jarls and Karls and magic.
