How can I best put on my breastplate and backplate?
The putting on of your breastplate and backplate isn't that difficult, but there are definitely a few things you need to keep in mind. It would be easier if you have someone who can help you with some parts of this process.
Fit
Before you wear your armor for the first time, it can be handy to first try on your armor for the fit.
Make sure you're wearing the base layers that you plan to wear with your armor during this fitting session, such as a gambeson and a chainmail shirt.
Start by fitting the breastpiece. Simply lay it on your shoulders and let it rest against your chest. If you feel the breastpiece is too tight or too loose around the neck, take it off again. You can bend the shoulder pieces slightly, so the breastplate fits better.
Once you're happy with the fit around your neck, you can look at the fit around your torso. If you find that the breastplate is a bit too wide or too tight, you can bend it once more to fit better.
After you've got the breastplate fitting well, you can go through this process again with the backplate.
Fastening
When both parts of your torso armor fit well, you can start fastening the front and back together. On the shoulders and at the sides are straps and buckles.
Start by fastening the straps on the shoulders to the corresponding buckles. Once these are fastened, you can do the same with the buckles on the sides.
