This pellote is a sleeveless overcoat and an Iberian regional variation on the better-known French surcotte. Unlike the French and English surcotte, with its dramatic, wide-cut 'gates of hell' armholes, the pellote is only openwork up to the hip and further along the entire skirt closed. This type of overgarment is known, among other things, from preserved burial clothes of the Spanish nobility from the thirteenth century.

The pattern woven brocade gives the pellote a rich, structured look that catches the light beautifully, supplemented with a gold trim along the neck and center front. The opening to the hip shows a glimpse of the underdress, while the skirt remains closed for sufficient warmth and freedom of movement.
