This ax pendant is a reproduction of a 5th century Alemannic ax symbol, found in Thuringia. Similar finds from the Rems-Murr area suggest that the motif originally comes from more southern regions.

Ax pendants were considered precursors of the later Thor's hammer: both the Viking god Thor and the Germanic god Wodan are traced to the Proto-Indo-European weather god, who is associated with the ax and hammer. The pendant represented fertility and was worn by both men and women.

Solid cast and decorated on both sides, made of fine ornamental bronze.
