Cowmouth shoes, also known as bear's claw or cow's mouth shoes, were very fashionable in the late 15th and 16th centuries. They displaced the extremely pointed poulaines and were worn by princes such as Charles VIII of France and Henry VIII of England. The nose became so wide at times that the wearer walked with a waddle, and there were even sumptuary laws to curb the excesses.
The landsknechts made them their trademark: through incisions in the upper leather, the colored fabric underneath became visible. With these shoes, red shines through the slits in the black leather, giving you the typical puff-and-slash effect without having to sew it yourself.
The upper leather is sturdy and molds to your foot after a few wears. The flat rubber sole walks nicely on cobblestones and in the camp, so you can spend an entire event weekend in them. Available in size 36 through 47.
