Product description
This early pea jacket is rooted in a rich maritime tradition. From the end of the 17th century, functional jackets cut to the waist - called a round jacket in sailing language - gained popularity among sailors: without long jacket panels you were less likely to get tangled in the rigging and it was easier to climb into the mittens. Made from sturdy sailcloth or heavy wool and knotted tightly against the sea wind, the garment provided freedom of movement during heavy work on board. This dress became the blueprint for privateers and naval officers, and remained standard service dress at sea until the 19th century.
This pea jacket is made of cotton and brown of colour, with 7/8-long sleeves and a round collar. The closure consists of eight copper-colored buttons on the front, so you can wear the jacket open or closed. The shorter sleeve length keeps your shirt sleeves or jewelry visible.
