This Thor's hammer is based on an original found at Hästa gård in Uppland, Sweden. The original is part of the collection of the Historiska Museet in Stockholm.

According to Norse mythology, the dwarf Brokkr forged Mjolnir. The dwarves were renowned for their excellent and magical metalwork. The Thor's hammer thus never missed its target when Thor threw it. The Thor's hammer is a symbol of strength for historical and modern Vikings.

Thor was the most revered god during the Viking Age. His symbol, the Thor's hammer (Mjölnir), was worn by both men and women, and some 1000 examples have been found in Scandinavia, England, Germany, the Baltic states and Russia. Most hammers are simple iron or silver; about 100 are richly decorated. They likely originated from earlier Germanic amulets, such as the maces from Roman times that were associated with Donar. The earliest Thor's hammers date from the Migration Period and Vendel period (from around 540 AD), but became especially popular during the Viking Age, possibly as a reaction to Christian crosses.
