Breastplates like this developed in the late Gothic style (1440–1500). The Gothic style is characterized by sharp, highly decorative forms. The design of this type of breastplate follows Burgundian fashion, stopping at the thighs like a fashionable doublet. Such armor pieces were worn throughout Europe and were considered the best of their time.

Breastplates like this were often combined with chainmail voiders, a chainmail collar (standard or bishop’s mantle), and a chainmail skirt (gousset). Arms and legs were also fully armored, and this style was paired with pointed sabatons, which mimicked the shape of poulaines from contemporary fashion. Gothic armor was often worn with a sallet and bevor, though kettle hats also remained popular.

This breastplate features an integrated plackart, which provides extra strength at the bottom of the cuirass, creating the characteristic central ridge. The front is fitted with faulds (articulated plates) that allow extra freedom of movement for the upper legs.

This breastplate is made from 1.6 mm thick steel and comes with straps and buckles. It can be easily adjusted to size and is decorated with brass fittings.
