Mail chausses were the standard type of metal leg protection in Europe from the 9th to the early 14th centuries, providing flexible protection against most weapons. The earliest examples are known as early as the 9th century; one of the best-known images is on the Bayeux Tapestry (1066–1083), where William the Conqueror and other knights wear them. Around 1200 there were mails chausses virtually standard equipment for knights and men-at-arms, until they were gradually replaced by plate armor for the legs from the second half of the 13th century.
This one chausses are made from steel, round rings - round rivets, ring diameter 10 mm, and are secured around the leg with laces.
Suitable for re-enactment and HEMA, as separate leg protection or as an addition to a complete chainmail armor.
