This long-cut men's waistcoat aligns with the early form of the European waistcoat. The waistcoat developed in the second half of the seventeenth century into an important part of men's clothing: it was worn over the shirt and under the long justaucorps and together with the trousers formed the three-piece man's suit. Early waistcoats were considerably longer than the later eighteenth-century models, fastened high at the front and could initially even be provided with sleeves.
This vest is inspired by that early form. The long cut, the high fastening and the continuous row of buttons align with the silhouettes from the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. It is made of premium cotton and fastens at the front with decorative buttons. The colour is bordeaux red.
Due to the long cut and high fastening, this waistcoat is particularly suitable for historically inspired outfits from circa 1680-1730. Wear it over a shirt and combine it with a justaucorps for the characteristic three-piece suit from this period. A nice choice for re-enactment, living history and event.
