These mid-height leather shoes are inspired by archaeological finds from Haithabu, a major Viking trading settlement located in what is now Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. The shoes are dated to the 9th to 11th century, a flourishing period for Haithabu, which at the time was known as one of the largest and most influential Viking cities in Northern Europe. Also known as Hedeby, Haithabu was strategically situated at the border between the Frankish Empire and the Scandinavian world, with access to both the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. It served as a vital hub in trade routes connecting the Middle East, Byzantium, Scandinavia, and Western Europe.
