This large pendant shows the motif of the 'Green Man', a man's head whose hair and beard are formed from leaves. The motif was characteristic of the sacred art of the high- and late Gothic, in which a pagan image continued to live on within a Christian context.

The origins of the Green Man reach back to pre-Christian times and connect two Celtic traditions: the head cult, in which the head was considered the bearer of all life force, and the mistletoe cult, in which Celtic druids cut mistletoe with golden sickles to strengthen life force and cure diseases. Both elements, head and plant, come together in the shape of the Green Man.

Its size and fine execution make this a striking accessory for medieval reenactment, with a filigree level of detail that does justice to the motif.
