This pot helmet is made after an image from the Westminster Psalter (British library, Royal MS 2 A XXII) from 1200-1250 AD. The image shows a knight who kneels in prayer before departing on a crusade. His squire hands him his helmet.
This type of early pot helmet emerged from the 1st half of the 13th century. It was a further development from the bucket helmet (calotte) and offered better protection for the entire head. Usually this type of helmets were worn in combination with a maliën coif. Helmets like these were worn by European aristocracy and knighthood and are depicted in various manuscripts and on various seals. They remained in use until the end of the 13th century.
This replica helmet is perfect for medieval costumes, Knights templar and medieval re-enactment. The helmet is richly decorated with brass fittings and has an adjustable cotton helmet inlay with leather laces, so you can adjust the helmet to the size of your head.
