Product description

This is a replica of a broad axe from the Viking period from the Museum of Cultural history in Oslo. The original was discovered in 2001 in Langeid, Norway. It was buried in grave 8 of the burial ground there, and was found together with an ornate sword. Jan Petersen, the archaeologist, categorised this type of axe head as type M, dating from the second half of the 10th century. The Langeid axe is of a somewhat later period and dates from the first half of the 11th century.
