Roman dolphin crest, 1st-3rd century, silvered bronze

Product description

This comb shows in relief two dolphins with upward-pointing tails, which together form the handle. The design is based on a Roman find dating between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD.

Dolphins played a recurring role in myths in classical antiquity and were seen as helpful creatures: they are said to have saved the poet Arion of Lesbos from drowning, and were considered companions of sea gods.

A graceful comb for those who want to portray Roman culture.
