Product description
The waistcoat originated in the second half of the 17th century as part of the new three-piece men's suit. It was worn over the shirt and under the coat. The first waistcoats were long, sometimes featuring sleeves and fastened almost to the neck. During the course of the 18th century, the sleeves disappeared, the garment became shorter, and the front was cut increasingly open.
This waistcoat aligns with the fashion of the late 18th century through its short cut and open neck. Towards the end of the century, waistcoats increasingly ended at the waistline, leaving a larger part of the shirt and neckcloth visible. This makes this model particularly suitable for outfits from approximately 1770–1800.
This waistcoat is made of 100% cotton.
