Product description
When Claudius unexpectedly became emperor in 41 AD, following the murder of Caligula, he seemed anything but destined to rule. Yet he added Britannia, Mauretania, Thrace, and Lycia to the Roman Empire, among other territories. This aureus celebrates precisely that conquest of Britannia, with the bust of Claudius on the obverse and a triumphal arch inscribed 'DE BRITANN' on the reverse.
The replica is cast directly from an original and made in tin, gilded with 22-carat gold for a rich, golden lustre. The coins comes in a carefully designed packaging with information about Claudius and his wife Agrippina.
A magnificent piece for collectors and for those who want to bring the Roman era to life.
