This pendant is modeled on a Germanic spearhead from the Gothic burial ground of Suszyczno near Kowel in Ukraine, found in 1858 and dated to the first half of the 3rd century.

The special feature of the Kowel spearhead is the mysterious runic inscription 'tilarids', inscribed on both sides of the spear blade in a very ancient form of the Elder Futhark — one of the oldest known runic inscriptions in the world. There is no clear translation, but the inscription is usually read in two parts: 'til' means 'goal', and the second part is seen as a verb form of 'drive' — together perhaps read as 'on the way to the goal' or 'hit well'.
