1. Diagnosis: What kind of fabric is it?
Cotton/Canvas: This material is sensitive and requires a gentle approach.
Synthetic (Polyester/Acrylic): This is generally more robust, but can also be damaged by using the wrong chemicals.
Important: Never use chlorine or aggressive bleach. This destroys the fibers and makes the fabric permanently porous.

2. The step-by-step plan: Clean safely
Step 1: Dry and brush
Let the tent dry completely in the open air (not in direct sunlight if possible, but in a well-ventilated space). Use a soft, dry brush to gently sweep away loose mold spores. Do this preferably outside, so the spores don't end up in your living space.
Step 2: Gentle cleaning
The solution: Make a mixture of warm water with a mild, specially designed tent cleaner. These are available in our shop and are safe for the fabric coating.
Alternative: If you don't have a special cleaner, a gentle solution of vinegar and water (ratio 1:5) is often effective against mold spores, but always test it first on an inconspicuous spot.
Washing: Use a soft sponge or cloth. Work in circular motions. Then rinse thoroughly with plenty of (clean) water.
Step 3: Drying
This is the most important step. Let the fabric dry naturally and completely in the air. Hang the tent or tarpaulin in a shady, well-ventilated spot.
3. Aftercare: Restore water resistance
Cleaning can partially remove the original impregnation (the coating that makes water bead off).
Impregnate: After cleaning and drying, you should treat the fabric again with an impregnation spray or liquid suitable for tent fabric. This ensures that the fabric becomes water-repellent again and is less likely to pick up dirt or mold again.
4. Checklist for your maintenance kit
[ ] Special tent cleaner (safe for coatings).
[ ] Soft brush and sponge.
[ ] Patience: Make sure you have a dry, ventilated space.
Expert tip: Prevent mold in the future by never leaving a wet tent or tarpaulin folded up for more than 24-48 hours. Do you have to break down the tent while it's wet during a rainstorm? Make sure you set it up again or lay it out in a dry place within 24 hours.
