Shells like this were used by Roman women to store make-up, soap and jewels. This beautiful shell symbolized the Roman goddess Venus and the Greek goddess Aphrodite. This shell measures 9-10 cm and can be used for storing Roman or modern soap and make-up.

In the Renaissance painting 'Birth of Venus' by Botticelli, the shell is also used to symbolize femininity. The Greek poet Hesiodos wrote in the 8th century BC that the goddess Venus or Aphrodite was born from the sea. She came ashore on a large shell.
