The beret was used all over Scotland since the 15th century. Originally it was worn by the Lowlanders and Border Reivers but later on the Gaelic clans started to wear it as well. The color of Scotland is blue and the blue berrets are known all over the world for their Scottish origin. The beret was used at Flodden, during the British Civil War, and during the Jacobite Revolts. The Jacobites wore a white flower / cocotte on the beret.
