Sallet with visor 1480, 2 mm (battle-ready)

This one sallet is made after an example from 1480 made in Nuremberg in the German style. Nuremberg was known for its solid sheet steel that was exported throughout Europe. Helmets like these are now part of the collections of, among others, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Wallace collection in London, the national museums of Prague and Vienna and Musée de l'Armée in Paris.

Sallets These were created between 1450 and 1460 and were worn everywhere in Europe, especially in Germany they were extremely popular, even among the aristocracy. The crosshairs of this one sallet is made in the art of the late Gothic period and the neck piece consists of several slats for greater freedom of movement.

The German sallet could be the result of the mixing of influences from the Italian sallet and the German kettle hats with wide rim and visor, which were used in the 1st half of the 15th century. This one sallet is made in the German style and has a neck piece consisting of several slats. Sallets such as these were mainly combined with a bevor, but sometimes also a gorget or worn without additional neck protection. The sallet can be worn in 5 different ways, with or without a bevor:

1, Sallet half over the head, this ensures an optimal field of view
2, Sallet half over the head and bevor closed. This provides an optimal field of view with extra protection for the face
3, Sallet flat on the head with visor open, this provides optimal field of vision and is useful for shouting orders in battle.
4, Sallet flat on the head with visor open and bevor closed. This offers slightly more field of view than with a closed visor.
5, Sallet flat on the head with visor closed, this offers maximum protection to the head and face.

This one sallet is made of 2mm thick cold rolled steel. The neck protector consists of 3 flexible parts that provide extra freedom of movement for the head. The helmet is equipped with a comfortable parachuteinlay and a chin strap.

The helmet has the following dimensions:
Size M: from front to back approx. 22.5 cm; ear to ear approx. 18.5 cm; max head circumference up to 61 cm.
Size L: from front to back approx. 23.5cm; ear to ear approx. 19 cm; max head circumference up to 63 cm.
