This amphora is made after one of the ten-thousands of originals that have been excavated. They were mainly used in large quantities between the 1st and 4th century, but they were also used in an earlier period: the era of the Roman Republic. Amphorae were the Roman containers. These vessels were used for transporting wine, olive oil, fish oil or other liquids or seperate goods. Amphorae could be stacked on top of each other to fit large quantities easily on a cart, in a storeroom or in a ship. Amphorae were even used by the tanners to collect urine in.
This amphora is completely handmade and has a volume of 5 l. Its height is approx. 60 cm. It weighs approx. 10 kg.
Washing-up instructions: Wash by hand, not suitable for dishwashing machines.
